7 Skin Conditions That Look Like Acne But Aren’t

Can you spot the pimple imposter?

1. Rosacea

1.Rosacea is a persistent inflammatory acne-like condition. Rosacea is induced by histamines, hot meals, caffeine, and alcohol, unlike acne.

2. Folliculitis

Folliculitis, a frequent summer skin issue, is an infection of hair follicles that causes small, red pimples with pus. They might be itchy, unpleasant, or crusty.

3. Keratosis Pilaris

In persistent keratosis pilaris, abrasive (red, white, or skin-colored) pimples on the upper arms and legs feel like sandpaper.

4. Perioral Dermatitis

In contrast to bacterial acne, perioral dermatitis is an inflammatory facial rash. The main cause is topical steroids.

5. Sebaceous hyperplasia

Genomic sebaceous hyperplasia causes flesh-colored, doughnut-shaped lumps on the forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin

6. Ingrown hairs

Ingrown hairs form a lump when they loop back into the skin. Dr. Fusco says they can appear as white, red, or “underground” cysts exactly like acne.

7. Basal cell carcinoma

Derived from the epidermis' basic layer, basal cell carcinoma grows slowly. Ultraviolet exposure from sunshine and tanning lamps causes it.
